The Machine Learning Group at Luleå University of Technology is looking for a doctoral student focusing on the next generation of sustainable artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, based on hardware inspired by the structure and function of the brain for superior energy and latency performance in embedded and human-centric applications. We offer well-equipped laboratory facilities for research and a good inter-disciplinary academic network in Sweden and abroad.
Subject description
Machine learning focuses on computational methods by which computer systems uses data to improve their own performance, understanding, and to make accurate predictions and has a close connection to applications.
Project description
As a doctoral student, you will be part of the MARTINA project and will explore the application of co-design optimized machine learning and neuromorphic solutions for applications that are challenging to address using conventional technology. This project drives innovation and development forward through applied AI and advanced digitization, to strengthen the competitiveness of the region's small and medium-sized companies.
Duties
As a PhD student you are expected to perform both experimental and theoretical work within your research studies as well as communicate your results at national and international conferences and in scientific journals. Most of your working time will be devoted to research studies. In addition, you will have opportunities to get experience of teaching relevant courses.
Qualifications
We are looking for an ambitious doctoral student who wants to conduct state-of-the-art research at the crossroads of brain inspired machine learning and next-generation hardware concepts. Candidates should have experience of machine learning, computer science, physics, electrical engineering, neuromorphic engineering, or a similar field. You should have good communication skills in both spoken and written English and have the capacity to work independently as well as in teams.
