Collaboration agreement between Sparebanken Møre, GassROR IKS, and Molde University College

Sparebanken Møre, GassROR IKS, and Molde University College have in a collaboration agreement secured the financing of eight PhD positions. The financing of the positions aims to strengthen research-based education, enhanced competences, and regional as well as national development. 

Molde University College therefore announces one of these positions as a PhD scholarship in Logistics focusing on Optimization and socio-economic assessment of carbon capture, transport and storage in value chains.


About the position

Møre and Romsdal county in Norway is renowned for its developed and robust industrial sector, with key industries including aluminium production, maritime and shipping, shipbuilding, furniture manufacturing, petroleum, and tourism. These industries are significant contributors to CO2 emissions and have set ambitious targets for CO2 reduction. Establishing a local carbon capture and storage (CCS) value chain could play an important role in achieving these targets and support local industrial development.

As a PhD candidate, you would be expected to contribute to the research within this emerging field in close cooperation with our research group and the industry. 

The goals of the PhD project include:

  • Analysis of the sources of CO2 with potential for delivery to the CCS facilities in the region.
  • Evaluation of the alternative configurations of the CCS value chain in the region.
  • Assessment of the economic, environmental and social consequences of CCS value chain development in the region, including spill-over effects for the regional economy. 

For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree. The appointment period is three to four years. An appointment for four years includes 25% career-advancing tasks, such as teaching, supervision, or administrative duties. The position is intended to prepare you for a career in academia, industry, or the public sector.


Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with good collaborative and communication skills and a solid educational background in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Economics, Operational Research or similar.

Your higher education must equate 5 years of full-time studies on top of the entry requirements for first cycle studies (Bachelor’s degree) in Norway. For some countries this means that you must have more than 5 years of what is called higher education in your home country. Please confer the GSUlist for relevant information pertaining to your home country: https://hkdir.no/en/foreign-education/lists-and-databases/higher-education-entrance-qualification-gsu.  Your master’s degree (or equivalent) must constitute at least one full year of studies (60 ECTS), and must contain an individual piece of student work, normally a master thesis. The average grade of the master’s degree should be B or better on the ECTS grading scale, or an equivalent average grade on other grading scales.

Very good knowledge of English, both written and spoken, is required. It will be seen as an advantage if you have some command of the Norwegian language and some knowledge and understanding of the industrial landscape in Norway and in Møre og Romsdal county in particular. We also emphasize personal qualities.

We offer

The place of work is Molde, Norway. The appointment period is three to four years. An appointment for four years includes 25% career-advancing tasks, such as teaching, supervision, or administrative duties. The position will be remunerated with a gross salary from NOK 541 800 with a 3 % yearly wage increase. A higher salary may be considered for especially qualified candidates. The appointment will be in accordance with current Norwegian regulations concerning fixed-term jobs in the public sector and guidelines for employment as a scholarship holder at universities and university colleges.

  • A description of your proposed research topic, maximum 5 pages. The description must be thoroughly grounded in the project description above, give a title, an outline of the research, including research problem/research question(s), theory, research method and the novelty of the research relative to the existing academic literature. A proposal that does not meet these requirements will cause a rejection of your application. The quality of your project proposal will an important criterion for ranking qualified applicants.
  • CV (summarizing your education and work experience).
  • English language certified copies of educational diplomas/certificates/transcripts that clearly indicate chieved degrees and the number of credits and grades achieved for both undergraduate and graduate studies.
  • A master thesis or equivalent independent student work. If the thesis is not in English or a Scandinavian language, a certified transcript of the abstract of the thesis must be provided.
  • Any other academic publications (e.g. conference papers) that the applicant wishes to be considered.
  • Names, positions, and e-mail addresses of three individuals who can be contacted as references for academic and personal qualifications.
