Your Job:
You will develop instrumental analytical and theoretical methods to determine the origin of hydrogen and, in particular hydrogen carriers (including methanol, LOHC systems, formic acid) by investigating the physical properties of the molecules in the laboratories on the campus of Forschungszentrum Jülich. The investigation of how these characteristics are influenced by processes in the value chain of the hydrogen economy will also be part of your work.
- Further development of the detection concept for green hydrogen, particularly green hydrogen carriers
- Development and implementation of analytical methods in isotope ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy (GC-MS), as well as other spectrometric methods
- Experimental and modelling analysis of relevant processes in the hydrogen industry
- Investigation of reaction mechanisms in the field of the hydrogen economy, particularly with regard to the charging and discharging of hydrogen carriers
- Cooperation with partners in the green hydrogen sector
- Publication and presentation of research results in relevant journals and at national and international conferences
- Collaboration with other working groups at Forschungszentrum Jülich
- Participation in the development of the institute
Your Profile:
- Sucessfully completed scientific university degree (Master) in the fields of chemical engineering, process engineering, chemistry, experimental physics or a comparable discipline
- Experience in instrumental analytical chemistry
- Knowledge of hydrogen and energy research is an advantage
- Experience in the practical application of GC-MS methods is advantageous
- High motivation to complete the doctorate within three years
- Very good organizational skills
- Ability to show initiative and work independently
- Very good cooperation and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- Very good written and spoken English skills

The position is for a fixed term of 3 years, with possible long-term prospects. Pay in line with 75% of pay group 13 of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund) and additionally 60 % of a monthly salary as special payment („Christmas bonus“).
