About Jamie Jackway

Jamie Jackway is an advanced care paramedic, a proud Indigenous Australian and a valued member of our team. In November 2009, he was in an accident while doing a rescue operation with our QAS flight crew.

A patient on a container ship in the Torres Strait was having heart problems and needed rescue winching. During the operation, the winching cable failed and Jamie and a fellow aircrew member fell 10 m onto the container ship below. Jamie suffered multiple injuries and was paralysed from the neck down. He spent several months in Brisbane rehabilitating, with the support of his family, friends and workmates.

Jamie's positive outlook and personable character has made him an exceptional ambassador. He’s been an ambassador for several organisations such as the United Workers Union and QAS Legacy.

We named this scholarship after him to recognise his contributions.
