The Graham Matheson Scholarship for Postgraduate Research Studies in Mineral Processing, Mining Engineering or Chemical Engineering is a prestigious scholarship established through a generous bequest from the late Mr Graham Houston Matheson, a University of Adelaide alumnus and accomplished metallurgist.

This scholarship provides a stipend equivalent to the current University of Adelaide Research Scholarship (UARS) rate and is awarded annually to high-performing students commencing a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) in mineral processing, mining engineering or chemical engineering.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • An Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, Permanent Humanitarian visa holder, or international student;
  • Commencing full-time study in a HDR program (PhD or MPhil) at the University of Adelaide in one of the eligible disciplines listed above;
  • Undertaking research aligned with the fields of mineral processing, mining engineering or chemical engineering.

Stipend:

The scholarship offers a stipend equivalent to the current UARS rate, AUD$35,300 p.a. (2025). The scholarship is likely to be tax exempt, subject to Taxation Office approval.

Applying:

This scholarship will be awarded to the highest-ranked eligible applicant by the Adelaide Graduate Research School. Applications must be submitted through the standard online scholarship application portal during the round.
