The General Merit Scholarships for Indigenous Undergraduate Students Commencing Term 1, 2026 aims to encourage and assist Indigenous Australian students to undertake study at UNSW.

Undergraduate Commencing Scholarships - Application Required

You must submit an application to be considered for the following scholarships. More scholarships may be added to this list progressively.

Mr & Mrs Ngiam Tong Yuen Residential Scholarship for Indigenous Students (PUCE1023)	$25,000 per annum towards residential fees for the minimum duration of program	Eligibility Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander only). Must be commencing any undergraduate program at UNSW. Must be residing at any UNSW on-campus accommodation. Preference will be given to students residing at Basser College Selection Criteria Academic Merit Leadership skills (school, workplace or community) Extra-curricular activities (sporting, cultural activities, volunteer/work experience)

Engineering
Faculty of Engineering Indigenous Scholarship (UGCE1028)	$15,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program (up to 5 years)	Eligibility Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander only). Be commencing any undergraduate program in the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW. Selection Criteria Academic Merit Leadership skills (school, workplace or community) Extra-curricular activities (sporting, cultural activities, volunteer/work experience) Aptitude and commitment to studies in Engineering
Medicine & Health
Balnaves Foundation Indigenous Medical Scholarship (UGCA1278)	$35,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program	Eligibility Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander only). Be commencing a Bachelor of Medical Studies / Doctor of Medicine at UNSW. Selection Criteria Academic Merit Aptitude and commitment to studies in Medicine Aptitude and commitment to a career in Indigenous health Contributions to the wider community; for example, through sport, community groups or other extra-curricular or cultural activities Personal qualities, for example, communication skills, evidence of leadership skills and/or teamwork, involvement in extra-curricular activities Performance at the UNSW Pre-Medicine Program Exit Interview may be taken into consideration.
Science
School of Mathematics and Statistics Indigenous Scholarship (UGCE1268)	$5,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program	Eligibility Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander only). Be commencing undergraduate studies in a Bachelor of Science majoring in Mathematics or Statistics. Double degrees are permitted. Note: Current undergraduate students enrolled in their 1st year of study at UNSW and majoring in Mathematics or Statistics will also be considered. Selection Criteria Academic Merit Aptitude and commitment to studies

Unanswered application questions or claims without supporting documentation will not be assessed. Late applications/supporting documentation will not be accepted. Activities and achievements recorded more than 3 year ago will not be considered in your application assessment.

Must have completed the UNSW Indigenous Pre-Program; and Received a full offer to any undergraduate program in the Faculty of Engineering at UNSW. Enrolment in a double degree in combination with one of the above degrees is also permissible, but the tenure of the Scholarship will remain at a maximum of 5 years. Selection Criteria: Applicants will be assessed on academic merit.
UNSW Indigenous Undergraduate Business Scholarship (UGCE1328)	$10,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program.	Eligibility: Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander only). Must have completed the UNSW Indigenous Pre-Program in Business, prior to commencing study at UNSW; and Received a full offer to an undergraduate degree program offered by UNSW Business School. Selection Criteria: Scholarships will be automatically awarded to students who have successfully completed the UNSW Indigenous Pre-Program in Business and are commencing an undergraduate degree offered by UNSW Business School.

Applicants will be assessed on academic merit.

UNSW Indigenous Undergraduate Business Scholarship (UGCE1328)

$10,000 per annum for the minimum duration of program.

Eligibility:

Indigenous Australian (Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander only).
Must have completed the UNSW Indigenous Pre-Program in Business, prior to commencing study at UNSW; and
Received a full offer to an undergraduate degree program offered by UNSW Business School.

Selection Criteria:

Scholarships will be automatically awarded to students who have successfully completed the UNSW Indigenous Pre-Program in Business and are commencing an undergraduate degree offered by UNSW Business School.

While Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identity is unique and sacred to every person, UNSW scholarships for Indigenous students will require proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and heritage. If you have not already provided proof of identity and heritage to Nura Gili, any Indigenous specific scholarship offer made by UNSW Scholarships will be conditional upon receipt of proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage to Nura Gili as outlined on the Nura Gili website. UNSW reserves the right not to award a scholarship, where there is no applicant of sufficient merit, or if the applicant does not meet the scholarship eligibility and/or selection criteria.
