About this scholarship

The Sedgman Scholarship (the Scholarship) has been developed to support and encourage female and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Engineering and to increase awareness of the work undertaken by Sedgman (Sponsor ).

The Sedgman Scholarship will provide the following support for up to a maximum of three years (based on a full-time enrolment of 100 credits)*:

  • A total value of up to $15,000 paid as a cash stipend of up to $2,500 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses
  • Guaranteed paid vacation work with Sedgman at the Perth facility. The recipient will be offered a casual rate equivalent to four weeks' full-time at an agreed time and across a period of time if required (i.e. part-time over eight weeks)

*Part-time support will be capped at a maximum of six years

The amount can be used at the recipients discretion to contribute towards education related expenses.

  • Bachelor of Science (Extractive Metallurgy)
  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management)


Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Sedgman Scholarship:

  • Australian Citizen, New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holder
  • Identify as female and/or of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Enrolled full-time or part-time (minimum 50 credits) in the 2nd year of an eligible course in Semester 2, 2025
  • Have a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 50
  • Not currently in receipt of any other industry sponsored scholarships


Application process

Step 1: Access application form

  • Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • If you are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander student and would like to be considered for this scholarship (as well as all equity and merit scholarships), we recommend that you apply for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program here (only one application form to complete)

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process
  • Tips on how to complete your application can be found on the ‘Applying for scholarships’ link on the scholarships website
  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page and within the Scholarships Channel on OASIS
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted
  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 3: Submit

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

  • Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:
    • Responses to questions in application form
    • Low socio-economic background
    • Passion for course / vision for career
    • Interview performance (for shortlisted applicants)

Step 6: Shortlist for Interview

  • Shortlisted applicants will be sent an interview date and time via their student email in late August
  • Shortlisted applicants must be available for the designated interview time
    • Interviews will be scheduled between 1st and 10th September 2025

Step 7: Outcome

  • Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified of their outcome via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) within approximately 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 8: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient need and merit


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
  • Maintain a full-time or part-time enrolment of at least 50 credits per semester at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 50 each semester
  • Pass all units attempted each semester
  • Complete at least one period of vacation work with the Sedgman
  • Not apply for or receive any other industry sponsored scholarships
