About this scholarship

The Kate Mullin Scholarship in Primary Education (Scholarship ) aims to support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students undertaking an undergraduate Bachelor of Education (Primary Education), who intend on teaching in Aboriginal schools. 
Kate Mullin was a passionate and visionary ESL Literacy consultant who made significant and far-reaching contributions to Aboriginal literacy in Western Australia (WA). She developed excellent relationships with a wide range of Aboriginal schools in WA which enabled the improvements in student literacy. The Kate Mullin Association (KMA) is a network of teachers, literacy coordinators and researchers, and committed friends of Kate’s who want to grow her legacy in Aboriginal literacy.

The Scholarship will provide the following support for up to a maximum of one year:

  • A total value of $5,000 paid as a cash stipend of $2,500 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipient's discretion to contribute towards education related expenses.


Scholarship Details

Bachelor of Education (Primary Education) 


 Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be considered for the Kate Mullin Association Scholarship:

  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
  • Enrolled in the second year or higher in the Bachelor of Education (Primary Education) at Curtin University
  • Enrolled in a minimum of 50 credits at Curtin University in Semester 1, 2025
  • Have a minimum CWA of 70


Application process

Step 1: Access online application form

  • Applications are to be submitted using the online application form. Access the form by clicking on the ‘Apply Online’ button on the top right-hand side of this page
  • Please note that this link will direct you to the general "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarship Program " application form. Once you submit your application, you will be considered for all scholarships that you are eligible for in this round

Step 2: Complete

  • Complete the application form online
  • Application form can be saved at any point of the process

Step 3: Submit

  • Closing date is listed at the top of the page
  • Incomplete applications will not be assessed
  • Once submitted, application status will change to submitted

Step 4: Receipt

  • Application receipt will be sent to student email once application has been submitted

Step 5: Assessment

Applications will be assessed by an assessment panel using the following criteria:

  • Responses to questions in application form
  • Academic Merit
  • Preference will be given to students who are:
    • From Western Australia
    • In their third or fourth year of study

Step 6: Outcome

  • All successful and unsuccessful applicants notified of their outcome via the Scholarships Channel (Student OASIS) within 6-8 weeks of the scholarship closing date

Step 7: Acceptance

  • Successful applicants must accept the terms and conditions via the Scholarship Channel (Student OASIS) by the deadline

Please note:

  • Scholarship will be awarded if there are applicants of sufficient merit.


Enrolment Requirements

Recipients must meet all of the following:

  • Remain enrolled in initial course of study
  • Maintain an enrolment of at least 50 credit points each study period at Curtin University
  • Maintain a course weighted average (CWA) of at least 65
  • Pass all units attempted
  • Successful Recipients may receive and hold another scholarship, provided that the other scholarship is from a different funding source / for a different purpose.
