Position

The Center for Cyber, Health, and Hazard Strategies (CHHS) at UMB invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position in emergency management planning, public health planning, and cybersecurity planning. The successful candidate will join a collaborative and interdisciplinary academic community committed to emergency and public health preparedness, cybersecurity and AI policy, resilience planning, response, and recovery. This is a full-time grant-funded salaried position.

Founded in 2002, the University of Maryland Center for Cyber, Health, and Hazard Strategies (CHHS) (formerly known as the University of Maryland Center for Health and Homeland Security) is a center housed in the Office of the Provost of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) that serves students and clients in the fields of emergency management, public health, and cybersecurity. Staffed by approximately 25 full-time professionals, along with student research assistants and externs, CHHS partners with state and local agencies, hospitals and healthcare associations, academic institutions, and public-private sector organizations to help them prepare for, respond to, and recover from various types of emergencies. CHHS also provides academic services, including curriculum development and instruction in four-degree programs (JD, LLM, MSL, MPS) at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law and the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP).

Position Information

Position Title: Associate Agent or Agent depending on education and experience Department/Division/School: School of Graduate Studies
Salary Range: Associate Agent $75,000 to $100,000 and Agent $90,000 to $125,000

Although the selected candidate will work within the Center for Cyber, Health, and Hazard Strategies (CHHS) they will hold a faculty rank within the School of Graduate Studies.

Background Checks

Employment at UMB is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. A background check does not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment.   • Work with educational institutions, hospitals, and private businesses on emergency planning, training, and exercise activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Terminal or master's degree in a related field

  • Strong research and writing skills.

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred:

    • Emergency management planning

    • Public health planning

    • Cybersecurity planning

    • Exercise development and facilitation.
