Teaching Assistant Professor, Adult Neuro SLP

invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track position as a Teaching Assistant Professor, with opportunity for advancement. Individuals with demonstrated interests in adult neurogenic communication disorders, and experience teaching undergraduate and graduate students with a variety of learning styles and from varied backgrounds, in person and online, are encouraged to apply. The proposed start date is August 16, 2025.

Responsibilities
The candidate will provide didactic instruction to undergraduate students in foundational courses in communication sciences and disorders (e.g., anatomy and physiology of speech and language) and to graduate students in adult neurogenic communication disorders (e.g., aphasia, motor speech disorders). The candidate will also assume responsibilities as program director for the clinical MA program in speech-language pathology and contribute to departmental and college service.  

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a doctorate in communication sciences and disorders or a related field and clinical certification in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years of full-time experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in communication sciences and disorders, including demonstrated evidence of excellence in course instruction.

Preferred qualifications include previous clinical work experience, experience supervising graduate students in speech-language pathology, and active Illinois state license for professional SLP practice.

Academic Environment
Speech and Hearing Science is a highly collegial and collaborative department, situated in the College of Applied Health Sciences on the main campus of the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and includes (a) the recently renovated Speech and Hearing Science Building that houses academic, research, and collaborative spaces; (b) the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Clinic; and (c) the Collaboration Lab that houses clinical faculty offices, a classroom, multiple study spaces for clinical graduate students, and private spaces for telepractice. Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Academic position, appointed on a 9-month basis. The expected start date is 8/16/2025. The salary range for this position is $72,000 – $78,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
