Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill five part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant for the School of Civil & Construction Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU).
  • The School of Civil and Construction Engineering is recruiting students to work in a lab.
  • Duties to be determined by hiring unit/supervisor and experimentation in a lab setting, laboratory set-up and maintenance, data collection and analysis, and other related tasks.
Position Duties
  • Duties may include, but are not limited to: assist in keeping the lab clean, and working closely with other students.
  • Work in a semi-open environment subject to colder temperatures during the winter, warm and humid conditions in the summer.
  • Use all manner of common wood and metal shop tools, such as wrenches, screwdrivers, measuring tapes, bolts, hammers, and may include data collection systems to address project goals.
  • Must be able to lift 25 kg.
  • Complete safety training. Protection gear is necessary and provided by the Laboratory.
  • May require sitting or standing for longer periods of time.
  • Other assigned duties

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
  • College of Engineering major
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Desire to be involved in hands-on research
  • Team player

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • The student enrolled as a CCE student (CE, ARE, or CEM) in good standing. 
  • Experience working with hand tools.
