Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
Development of specific metrics for improving the resilience of South Carolina communities using state-of-the-art knowledge and analytical methods. The position provides a liaison with state and local agencies for collaboration and co-creation of tools and validation of place-based measures. The job also includes organizing collaboration among resilience stakeholders and facilitates the transfer of knowledge and understanding of resilience concepts, research, and practical applications to students, practitioners, community organizations, the public, and scientific communities.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a master’s degree in area of research specialty.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
A degree or ABD in a doctoral program in Geography or a related field. Must demonstrate at least one year of professional experience working with state agencies or non-profit organizations. A PhD in Geography or a related field is preferred, with three years of GIS expertise applied to disaster recovery or emergency management.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Expertise in GIS, spatial statistics, oral and written communication skills, ability to facilitate small group discussions.

Provide translational services to the South Carolina Office of Resilience (SCOR) regarding current academic research on resilience indicators, including metrics to measure them, successful implementation of metrics, and usage across the nation.
