The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of New Hampshire invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Research Professor position in Sustainable Engineering.
We seek applicants with a strong background in systems analysis and simulation, machine learning and data analytics, multi-objective optimization, life cycle assessment (LCA), serious gaming, and other participatory research methodologies. Candidates should also demonstrate leadership in interdisciplinary collaboration, stakeholder and community engagement, and education and outreach.
Expertise in one or more of the following areas is strongly desired: industrial ecology, environmental engineering/science, computer science, industrial or mechanical engineering, and decision science. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing NSF-funded research projects during the initial two-year ramp-up period. These projects focus on:
Socially equitable, nature-based climate solutions
Sustainability of in-space manufacturing (ISM)
Flood resilience planning for individuals with disabilities
During this period, the candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program aligned with the mission of the Department and the University.
This includes leveraging UNH’s state-of-the-art research infrastructure, including resources such as:

School of Marine Science and Ocean Engineering
Carsey School of Public Policy
Space Science Center
NH Sea Grant and UNH Extension

Please be advised that this position is supported by external sponsor funding. As such, continued employment in this role is contingent upon the availability of those external funds. If, for any reason, the sponsor funding is reduced or discontinued, employment may be subject to modification or termination in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering or a closely related field
A demonstrated record of scholarly publications in the relevant research areas, particularly in high-impact journals
Strong potential to develop and lead an externally funded research program
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines with a broad range of researchers.
