Position Summary:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Assistant, Per Diem within the Rutgers Cancer Institute.
The Research Assistant, Per Diem, will be responsible for conducting and executing research experiments in accordance with instructions provided by the Principal Investigator within the laboratory team. This will include supporting the research of Principal Investigators and senior members of the laboratory. The Research Assistant, Per Diem will be responsible for attending laboratory conferences and for learning appropriate scientific methods and procedures. Candidates with experience in handling mice and maintaining mouse colonies will be preferred.
Among the key duties for this position are the following:

• Responsible for executing laboratory experiments outlined by the Principle Investigator or a member of laboratory team.
• Maintains mouse colonies, including mice breeding, ear tagging and genotyping, and keep records of mouse colonies.
• Learns and performs intranasal infection and intratracheal infection techniques to induce lung tumors. Monitors tumor-bearing mouse conditions and monitors lung tumor growth by micro-CT.
• Performs cell culture, western blot, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence staining.
• Attends journal clubs and other educational activities as deemed appropriate by lab management team.
• Assists in design and execution of experiments.

Minimum Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or its equivalent required.

• Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing.
• No special vision requirements.
• Lifting up to 25 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Lab environment.
• Moderate noise.
• Exposure to blood, excrement, anti-neoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory.
• Exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Salary: $15.49 per hour
