Duties and Responsibilities | The Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Neuroscience at Loyola University Chicago is recruiting postdoctoral scientists for newly funded projects investigating stress-related cognitive dysfunction. Description: We are seeking highly motivated and creative scientists to join a dynamic research team exploring fundamental questions about the molecular basis of cognition and stress resilience. Projects will be data-driven, using a reverse translational approach. Our recent work revealed that an epitranscriptomic process known as RNA editing, is abnormally regulated in several neurological disorders. Following these studies of human brain, we are testing the effects of stress on mouse behavior, neuronal morphology and neurochemistry. Our results suggest that prenatal stress triggers abnormalities in the glutamate system and in RNA editing, which may be precursors for cognitive dysfunction. We have consistently identified sex differences in these data. The objective of this research is to identify new targets for improved therapeutic interventions. Trainees who join Dr. Sodhi’s lab will gain experience in maintaining mouse colonies, molecular genetics, gene expression studies, neuronal tracing, and in the broader area of stress neurobiology. For more information about our research please see our website, www.sodhilaboratory.strikingly.com . Our laboratory is within the new, state-of-art Center for Translational Research and Education at the Health Sciences campus of Loyola University, located close to the downtown area of Chicago, with excellent public transport. The University provides a generous benefits package (please see https://www.luc.edu/hr/benefits/work-life-benefits/ ). Qualifications: Candidates who have graduated with a B.S. in Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Genetics or related subject within the last 2 years, with a record of research experience in a basic science laboratory are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of genetics is essential, while previous coursework in neuroanatomy and cell biology are desirable. Good verbal and written communication skills in English are also essential. The PI and our collegial team of experts will provide mentoring, supervision and training. To apply: Interested individuals should email a CV/ resume and cover letter including details of research experience and career goals to msodhi@luc.edu . Informal enquiries are welcome.
