Position Highlights

The College of Education's Teaching, Learning & Sociocultural Studies Department is seeking an experienced Principal Coordinator of Field Experience. The Principal Coordinator, Field Experience, oversees and implements the student teacher and practicum school-based field placement experience programs for the Elementary Education BAE and the Early Childhood Education BAE programs and reviews and analyzes those programs to ensure compliance with institutional, state and federal policies and regulations. This position maintains relationships with school districts and early childcare center partners established by the department, collaborates with program directors to recruit, select and train independent contractors who supervise student teachers, and partners with mentor teachers in local education agencies to support teacher candidates.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and manages all tasks related to placing and supervising student teachers and practicum students in established programs. Tasks include leading and training of student teaching supervisors, maintaining LEA field placement relationships and formal agreements, maintaining fieldwork placement databases, and securing technology access for students in the field. 
  • Supports students in pursuit of long-distance placements, middle school approved areas, and student teaching intern certification.
  • Works with Human Resources and the business office to ensure that student teacher supervisors are appropriately compensated for services rendered each semester.
  • Represents the Office of Field Experiences as a subject expert on departmental and program committees to provide input on program development and processes.
  • Provides advisory, referral and information services to teacher candidates in support of teaching readiness and  fieldwork success 
  • Collaborates with program directors, LTAs, ICONS, academic advisors, and teacher mentors in the creation of professional growth and support plans for teacher candidates in the field and is responsible for the student progress monitoring and support structures involved in each plan.  
  • Collaborates with the Office of Field Experiences’ administrative associates in execution of teacher preparation programs, to include the supervision of one half time administrative associate.
  • Possesses a full range and depth of professional knowledge and experience which allows them to provide input on program development and processes, and build and deliver training to mentor teachers and ICONS. 
  • Ensures compliance with teacher preparation fieldwork expectations of the Arizona Department of Education, Arizona Department of Health Services, University of Arizona and Local Education Agencies, to include the maintenance of valid and up to date fingerprint clearance records and early childhood health service records.
  • Responsible for the data collection of all Teaching, Learning, and Sociocultural Department’s Teacher Preparation Program exit surveys to collect feedback for program director analysis, and improvement.
  • Leads the student teacher recognition awards processes for various departmental teacher preparation programs as well as co-leads the annual educator career fair.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience supervising student teachers and/or novice teachers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a school administrator.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English.
  • Master's degree in education or related field.
