About the Department:
The Center for Geospatial Intelligence (CGEOINT) at George Mason University (GMU) conducts, supports, and coordinates research, teaching, technology transfer, and outreach activities in geospatial intelligence. The interdisciplinary center is supported by researchers from the departments of Geography and Geoinformation Science (GGS), Computational and Data Sciences (CDS) and Computer Science (CS).
About the Position:
The Center for Geospatial Intelligence (CGEOINT) Postdoctoral Research Fellow works as part of a team of graduate students, post docs, and faculty on research projects related to large-scale urban simulations and geospatial machine learning.
Responsibilities:
- Aggregates and analyzes open-source geospatial information as it relates to urban environments and mobility;
- Contributes to the design, development and refinement of a large-scale urban simulation framework;
- Works with a team of graduate students, post docs, and faculty; and
- Supervises graduate-level research assistants, and promotes the team’s accomplishments through publications, presentations, and other public events.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in computer science, physics, data science, or closely related field;
- Experience in data mining and machine learning, or experience with agent-based simulation frameworks; and
- Strong programming skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with deep learning for geospatial data (GeoAI);
- Experience in software engineering and project management;
- Excellent written communication skills demonstrated by prior publications; and
- A track record that demonstrates the ability to work well with interdisciplinary research teams.
