Glimpse of the Job
This position will involve research to discover the thiamin and quinalphos catabolic pathways. This will include genome sequencing, gene function assignments using bioinformatics and the biochemical reconstitution of overexpressed proteins. You will also participate in group meetings, help students in the techniques of genomics research and share the lab housekeeping tasks with the other group members.
Opportunities to Contribute
Conduct laboratory research on the biotin catabolic pathways.
Analyze data as part of participation in group meetings, manuscript preparation, and presentations at group meetings.
Participate in educational activities such as scientific meetings and seminars and reading of scientific literature.
Provide advice and assistance to other laboratory team members, serving as a mentor to students.
Maintain laboratory instrumentation and follow applicable safety standards.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry
A well-qualified candidate will also possess:
Experimental skills in organic synthesis.
Ability to multi-task and to work cooperatively with others.
Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Special Note: Due to this position’s salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
Schedule: May require working evening and/or weekend hours to complete complex experiments.
