What we want 

The Postdoctoral Research Associate, under general supervision, is responsible for conducting research to investigate the mechanisms of aging-related glial cell dysfunction and its contribution to neurodegeneration. The research focuses specifically on how oligodendrocyte (dys)function influences brain aging, chronic neuroinflammation, and the progression of Alzheimer’s disease using both mouse and cell culture models. The position is responsible for designing and conducting basic research experiments, collaborating with team members and external partners, and upholding the highest scientific standards. Writes and may contribute to research papers, articles, and publications. Assists with the preparation and cleaning of worksite.

Salary: will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Ph.D. in neuroscience, cell biology, molecular biology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated research productivity.

  • Strong interest in cell biology research and in developing research skills using cutting-edge technology and multidisciplinary approaches

  • Research experience with cellular and molecular biology, immunofluorescence microscopy, transgenic mouse models, or omics study.

  • Previous experience with primary cells and mouse models.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to critical analyze current knowledge in relevant research fields

  • Ability to multitask and work independently as well as cooperatively.

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

  • General research lab equipment, including but not limit to, fluorescence microscopy, PCR machines, Cryostat, flow cytometer, electrophoresis apparatus, and centrifuges. 

  • Able to handle mice.

Responsibilities

Conduct Research Experiments

  • Design and execute research experiments, in vivo (mice) and in vitro (primary cell cultures), using a wide range of lab techniques.

  • Perform mouse husbandry, genotyping, and colony management related to research projects.

  • Document experiments and maintain accurate lab notebooks.

Data analysis and interpretation

  • Analyze and compile research data obtained from experiments.

  • Evaluate, interpret, and present research data.

  • Write reports and manuscripts and contribute to grant proposals.

Meetings and General lab operation

  • Participate in lab meetings and conferences

  • Participate in joint projects involving collaborative teams.

  • Perform some general lab duties such as maintaining laboratory instruments and assisting with lab safety inspections.

Student training and supervision

  • Train and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
