Position Highlights The Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute at the University of Arizona invites applications from prospective postdoctoral scholars. Potential projects involve investigating the neural mechanisms underlying age-related changes in spatial navigation and memory. Methods to be used include high density single unit recordings, with simultaneous monitoring of single cells in the medial prefrontal cortex(mPFC) and hippocampus in rodents while rodents are performing a spatial alternation task, that depends on mPFC and hippocampus interactions.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform behavioral, electrophysiological experiments, analyze and summarize experimental results.
  • Scholarly collaboration - Submit experimental results for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Train and supervise research assistants (undergraduate, graduate, and technical staff) working on research projects, as well as on general laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Present talks or posters at national or international scientific meetings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge in neuroscience research including performing behavioral experiments and electrophysiological recordings in animal models,
  • Ability to work with a high degree of independence, to find creative solutions to challenging scientific problems, and to communicate effectively in scientific writing and in oral presentations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Psychology or related field
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in electrophysiology and analytic methods for analyzing this type of data.
  • Experience in computational neuroscience and modeling, as well as in the aging brain is desirable.
