Position Highlights The selected candidate will join the SMART Laboratory at the University of Arizona, working under the supervision of Professor Lianyang Zhang. The position involves a one-year appointment, with the possibility of a contract extension after this period. The selected candidate is expected to work on projects about dust control, biostabilization and bioleaching, and reuse of mine tailings.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on culture of microorganisms and fungi for (a) biostabilization of mine tailings to improve tailings dam stability and control tailings dust, and (b) bioleaching of mine tailings to recover critical minerals.
  • Conduct research to evaluate existing methods for mine tailings dust control currently used in practice.
  • Conduct research on reuse of mine tailings as sustainable construction materials.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Biogeomechanics, sustainable construction materials, or related fields upon hire.
