Job Summary/Basic Function | The College of Engineering, Science, Technology, and Agriculture at Central State University (Wilberforce, Ohio) invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Research Associate (PRA) position to conduct research related to the use of autonomous systems for real life applications to operationalize autonomy. The PRA will also be involved in research related to 2D semiconductors, polymers, and materials packaging in Human-Robot collaborative settings. This position provides an excellent training opportunity for a PRA to conduct innovative and interdisciplinary research and gain research experience in engineering. The position is scheduled to commence immediately. The duration of this position is 1 year. (12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension, subject to the availability of funds.) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Autonomous Systems and Semiconductor Research: Conduct research related to the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (commonly known as drone) technology and developing autonomy solutions for automating bridge inspection and semiconductor manufacturing through Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC). Dissemination: Prepare and publish research articles in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at professional conferences. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare technical progress reports. Meetings and Collaborations: Attend regular meetings planned under ongoing collaborative projects, present progress on activities conducted under the projects to the internal research team and external stakeholders. Student Mentorship: Mentor and supervise student research, train students for technical research writing and guide for research publication, and conference presentations. Establishment of New Labs: Provide support in precuring research equipment for the existing research labs and support in the establishment of new research labs at CSU. Support for Proposal Development: Collaborate with research faculty in preparing proposals for relevant grant opportunities to secure new or additional funding. Workshops & Outreach Activities: Coordinate and manage internships, educational training sessions, outreach events, and workshops. |
Minimum Qualifications | An earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Electrical/Computer/Software/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering, Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university is required at the time of appointment, with the research background in autonomous systems and their applications, and knowledge of machine learning and expertise in programming is required. |
Preferred Qualifications | We are seeking an individual with expertise in computational methods and analysis using machine learning with an interest in STEM research and training in an interdisciplinary collaborative setting. The successful candidate should be proficient in programing languages, such as Python. Image processing expertise will be a big plus. |
