Position Summary
As a Postdoctoral Associate under the direction of the Principal Investigator (Dr. Alfredo Oliveros), the candidate will use preclinical mouse models to investigate the crosstalk between the peripheral immune system and the central nervous system, and to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying how cancer and chemotherapy associated neuroinflammation contributes to cognitive dysfunction in the exciting new field of cancer related cognitive impairments. The candidate will work in an environment that is team-oriented where creativity, enthusiasm, and dedicated effort are highly rewarded.
Among the key job duties of this position which the candidate may have experience in include the following but are not limited to:
  • Planning and executing experiments independently to perform isolation of immune cells from various tissues, including spleen, brain, lymph nodes or blood and quantitative analysis using flow cytometry, cell sorting with appropriate analysis software.
  • Performing cellular/molecular biology-based experiments including protein expression and quantification, SDS PAGE and immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry for fluorescence/confocal microscopy, gene expression and PCR analysis.
  • Communicating scientific research progress in the form of oral presentations at conferences, in addition to preparing and submit scientific research for grant submissions and publication in scientific journal articles.
  • Performing duties relating to animal care, including but not limited to breeding, genotyping and maintenance of mouse colonies.
  • Instructing and training students (undergraduate and graduate), technicians and laboratory assistants as required.

Minimum Qualifications
PhD in either Neuroimmunology, Immunology, Neurobiology or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Rodent brain dissection, non-central nervous system tissue dissection. cryostat/microtome sectioning, immunohistochemistry and fluorescence/confocal microscopy.
  • In vivo tumor bearing models
  • Behavioral tests to assess cognitive function
  • Experience with performing cellular/molecular biology-based experiments including protein expression and purification, protein quantification, SDS PAGE and immunoblotting, gene expression and PCR analysis, immunohistochemistry for fluorescence/confocal microscopy.

Physical Demands
Salary Range $53,000 - $55,000
Additional Salary Information The salary range reflects our good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, the role and associated responsibilities, and the experience, education, and training of the selected candidate.
