Job Description

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biomedical Sciences or a closely related field in hand by the start of the appointment. Ability to demonstrate professional competence in relevant research activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficient in wetlab (cell culture, bench assays), dry lab (computational analysis), and mouse work. Recent graduates with a background in biological sciences, a history of academic productivity, and excellent references are encouraged to apply.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Yang laboratory at Stony Brook is looking for postdoctoral fellows to join our starting group. Yang lab investigates the metabolic and inflammatory mechanisms driving retinal degenerative diseases, aging-related pathologies, and ocular fibrosis. We focus on understanding the complex interactions among retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, macrophages/microglia, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts, with an emphasis on how metabolic reprogramming and inflammation contribute to disease progression. Substantial training will be provided for techniques.

Under the direct supervision of Dr. Yang , the incumbent will perform the following duties:

* Perform experiments relating to the role of metabolism, inflammation and epigenetic regulation in driving retinal degeneration. These include experiments such as spatial genomics, spatial metabolomics, single-cell sequencing, Optical/Photoacoustic imaging, seahorse, WB, RT-PCT, immunostaining and data analysis related to these assays. The experiments also include using cell culture models and mouse models to address the role of metabolism and inflammation in ocular diseases.

* Manuscript writing for publication and presentation of research findings at national/international meetings. May also assist in grant writing.

* Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.

* Perform other duties as assigned, such as training new personnel.
