The Materials Science Division (MSD) of Argonne National Laboratory is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral appointee in electrochemistry and surface science. The research project, within the Advanced Materials for Energy Water System (AMEWS) EFRC and supervised by Alex Martinson, aims to probe the limits of selective adsorption and transport and to steer electrochemical reactions to targeted reaction pathways that have potential impact on aqueous pollution remediation. Deeper insights into water-solid interfaces are essential for development of innovative and efficient technologies to extract valuable resources. To do so, we identify new mechanisms to drive selective electrocatalysis in complex aqueous mixtures. Experimental work involves precision atomic layer deposition synthesis and electrochemical characterization of designer interfaces.
Position Requirements
The successful candidate will be highly motivated and have a strong track record in problem solving and scientific publications. The candidate will be expected to conceive of, plan, and implement the scientific research, and to report relevant results in publications and conference presentations. The selected individual will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and gain in-depth knowledge of the research frontiers of in situ characterization of deposition science and electrochemical interfaces.
Position Requirements: A PhD in chemistry, materials science or related field; received within the last 5 years or upcoming year. Significant written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to work in teams. Desireable: Experience in atomic layer deposition (ALD) and electrochemistry. Familiarity with spectroscopic ellipsometry, atomic force microscopy, and thin film characterization methods.
