Job Title:
Post Doctoral Scholar
Department:
Arts and Sciences | Earth Sciences
We are seeking a Post Doctoral Scholar to join the School of Earth Sciences at The Ohio State University to conduct geotechnical experiments on marine sediment samples to determine the effects of dynamic shaking on physical properties. The Post Doctoral Scholar will embark on a program of independent research with the primary goal of undrained shear experiments on natural seafloor marine sediment. The samples (6) have previously been consolidated in one-dimensional uniaxial strain conditions and are available in-house for further experimentation. This project is a component of an active research grant funded by the National Science Foundation on the effects of seismicity on shear strength development of seafloor and near-seafloor sediments. Duties will include conducting the shear experiments in collaboration with the PI and collaborators in the Civil Engineering Department at Ohio State, analyzing the experimental data, and leading a peer-reviewed journal article based on the findings.
Minimum Education Required
A Ph.D. is required, with experience in the field of seismology.
Required Qualifications
Experience in theoretical and/or practical poromechanics or similar relevant experience in seismology. Desirable experience in laboratory analyses and/or field deployments and the analysis of digital waveform data.
