A postdoctoral research associate opportunity with experience in flavor or analytical chemistry is available to join the Flavor Research and Education Center (Peterson lab) at the Ohio State University (Columbus, OH).  

The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of experiments related to food flavor research under the direction of the Principal Investigator. The main goal is to identify nonvolatile and volatile compounds that impact the flavor attributes of food samples using analytical techniques (LC/MS, GC/MS) and sensory evaluation methods. Activities include isolation of nonvolatile compounds of interest by Prep-LC and structural elucidation by MS and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). Preparation of first and co-authored manuscripts, reports, and updates and present their research findings at professional meetings and conferences. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to work in a collaborative team are required. Additionally, to provide general laboratory support. 

THIS IS A TERM POSITION  FOR UP TO 3 YEARS DEPENDING UPON FUNDING AVAILABILITY AND PERFORMANCE.   

80% of job description- Plans, coordinates and performs sample preparation and analysis of food materials utilizing advanced analytical techniques, such as GC/MS and LC/MS platforms; generates, evaluates and conducts data interpretation.  

20% of job description- Prepares manuscripts and presents research findings at professional meetings. Support PhD students in a collaborative way. Provide general laboratory support, purchase equipment, and supplies, and support the laboratory maintenance.
