Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the principal investigator, the successful candidate will lead research on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that mediate dietary protein sensing and communication by ovarian and adipose tissues. The candidate will utilize Drosophila melanogaster as a model system and employ a combination of genetic, cell biological, and molecular tools to manipulate gene expression in adipocytes and various ovarian cell types, assessing the impacts on fat and ovarian biology. Significant experience in molecular biology, genetics, Drosophila melanogaster husbandry, and fluorescence imaging approaches is required. Additionally, the successful candidate will play a major role in developing, implementing, and evaluating a community outreach STEM program for Columbia, SC participants.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. (or all but degree) in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Developmental Biology, Biology, or related field, and the ability to contribute immediately to a rigorous research program.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Experience with using Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism; previous use of confocal microscopy; basic molecular biology skills; proficiency with standard word, statistical, and imaging processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word, GraphPad Prism, Adobe Illustrator).
