Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The selected candidate will provide critical expertise in organic synthesis and will be responsible for training graduate students in this area. Additionally, this role will play a key part in advancing one of Dr. Leung’s major research directions: the development of chloride-sensitive fluorophores for biomedical imaging applications.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related field by the start date of employment with expertise in fluorophore synthesis and bio-conjugation.
  • Strong publication record.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Expertise in organic synthesis and bio-conjugation
  • Knowledge and expertise in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data from common analytical instruments such as UV-Vis, NMR, MS
  • Ability to initiate tasks and work well independently
  • Ability to engage in collaborative team work
  • Documented evidence of publications in related fields
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); Strong writing and editorial skills: ability to independently handle the preparation of sponsor reports and research manuscripts

  • Create organelle-selective imaging tools for organelle chemotype fingerprinting, a key aim of the research program.
  • Use synthetic organic chemistry methods to develop and optimize fluorescent indicators and organelle-targeting ligands.
