Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The post-doctoral fellow will first work to serve environmental justice communities by transitioning the work of REACT4 to USC, which means transitioning REACT4’s information, files, databases and client intake system into a form that can be housed and employed at USC. The post-doctoral fellow, secondly, will draw on the experiences of serving environmental justice communities to produce published research in environmental ethics.

  • Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty.

  • PhD in Philosophy.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Track record of research and publication in environmental ethics; track record of research collaboration in environmental justice research.
  •  Knowledge of the University of South Carolina and it’s efforts to promote environmental justice through the Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center

Produce published academic research on environmental justice, drawing on the practical experience of community engagement work at USC. The purpose of this work is to enhance applied scholarship in environmental ethics, which aligns with the grant’s objectives.

Transition the systems and work of REACT4 (data, files, webpage, and listserv) into USC’s controlled servers and community engagement operations. This includes preserving email lists and client records from CMS. The purpose is to ensure that REACT4’s work continues beyond the life of the grant.

Produce minor pieces of research that provide internal ethical guidance for community engagement practices at USC. Examples include conflict-of-interest policies or policies for promoting community autonomy. The purpose is to develop and implement ethically informed internal policies.
