Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Ogawa Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of South Carolina Post-Doctoral Fellow to work on a research project examining the function of proteins associated with establishing neuron-specific structures, such as the axon initial segment and axo-axonic synapses. Under the PI’s general supervision, the individual will assist our research program, which examines the protein functions in neurons using Proteomics, AAV, and CRISPR genome editing approaches. Responsibilities will include assisting with primary rat neuronal cultures, viral production, maintaining mouse colonies, and performing administrative duties. The incumbent will write manuscripts and reports on their research, present their research in group settings, and have access to opportunities to further their professional development.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
  • Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
  • Research experience in Molecular and Cellular Biology and/or Neurobiology. 
  • Previous experience with fluorescence microscopy, cell culture, and/or other molecular and cellular techniques.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge and expertise in the development and application of analytical methods for the characterization of natural organic matter is essential. 
  • Experience in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, high-performance liquid chromatography, elemental analyses, and statistical analyses (e.g., principal component analysis)
