Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Postdoctoral Associate will develop an independent research project centered on uncovering the cellular and molecular mechanisms for regulating iron homeostasis and thiol redox balance in pathogenic and non-pathogenic fungi. In addition, the individual will supervise and mentor other members of the research group, including high school, undergraduate and graduate students. The postdoctoral associate will be responsible for operating and maintaining two anaerobic chambers used for protein purification and sample preparation, a CD spectrophotometer used for spectroscopic analysis of metalloproteins, and a graphic furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometer used for metal analysis. Overall duties include planning, executing, and evaluating research experiments, independently writing and publishing research articles, reviews, and/or book chapters, writing research grants, maintaining lab inventory, ordering laboratory equipment and supplies, presenting research findings in meetings, and attending biochemistry-related divisional and departmental seminars.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty by the start date of employment. 
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree by the start date of employment in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a closely related field with specific expertise in metal homeostasis. This expertise could have been gained during the normal course of a doctoral degree program.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
The candidate must have expertise in protein purification and spectroscopic analysis of metalloproteins (which may include circular dichroism, UV-visible absorption, EPR, EXAFS, or Mossbauer spectroscopy). In addition, the candidate should have experience independently writing and submitting research papers for peer-reviewed publications, the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and excellent interpersonal skills. Documented evidence of publications in related fields is also required.
