Job Summary

The Allen Lab at Purdue University College of Pharmacy invites applications for a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship focused on health disparities research through a pharmacoepidemiology and cancer outcomes lens. Fellows will engage in NIH-funded projects that explore disparities in supportive care medication (SCM) use, using national datasets (e.g., SEER-Medicare, SEER-MHOS), predictive analytics, and stakeholder-engaged methods. The lab is committed to actionable research that informs policy and improves medication access for historically underserved populations.
 
Fellows will be mentored by Dr. John Allen and work within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team aligned with Purdue’s strategic focus on health equity and population health.
 
Program Goals and Learning Objectives


The fellow will gain experience in:

  • Designing and conducting pharmacoepidemiologic studies in cancer and medication use
  • Applying frameworks such as the Andersen Behavioral Model (ABM) and 4Ms of Geriatrics
  • Conducting advanced data analysis and predictive modeling
  • Engaging patients, caregivers, and health system stakeholders in research design
  • Disseminating findings via peer-reviewed publications and conferences
  • Mentoring students and contributing to grant development
     

Sample Activities:

  • Lead and support analysis of SEER-Medicare data for ongoing and new studies
  • Contribute to manuscript writing, research presentations, and grant proposals
  • Co-mentor PharmD and graduate students in the lab
  • Participate in optional teaching opportunities, including the Indiana Pharmacy Teaching Certificate (IPTeC)
  • Receive biweekly mentoring and professional development coaching

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD, DrPH, ScD, or equivalent in Pharmacoepidemiology, Health Services Research, Public Health, Biostatistics, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated commitment to addressing health disparities
  • Strong quantitative skills (e.g., SAS, R, STATA)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with large administrative or population health datasets (e.g., SEER-Medicare)
  • Familiarity with stakeholder-engaged research methods (e.g., Delphi, survey design)
  • Peer-reviewed publications
  • Background in cancer care, aging, palliative care, or medication access research
