The candidates will research how mitochondria, genetics and genomics influence platelet function, bleeding, and clot formation. One project will investigate the mechanisms regulating mitochondrial fission in megakaryocytes, and will use mouse models to determine how mitochondrial fission affects platelet production and function. The other project involves developing and implementing cutting-edge CRISPR/Cas9 approaches in primary human hematopoietic progenitors to evaluate gene functions and the effect of genetic variants in blood cells, including platelets and megakaryocytes. This will include designing and conducting high throughput functional assays and pooled library screens followed by validation of findings in cell culture and mouse models. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to prepare themselves for academic or industry success through presentations, publications, grant writing, and exposure to a diverse range of scientific techniques and collaboration opportunities. |
