Pharmacist Post-Doctoral Scholar Kennelty Research Group

Position Summary:


We are seeking a highly motivated and independent pharmacist post-doctoral candidate with training and expertise in the field of ambulatory care pharmacy. The research projects provide opportunities to have major, positive impacts on human medicine by health care system improvement. The projects will focus on studying the impact of pharmacist involvement in self-measured of blood pressure. This position will offer numerous opportunities for the right candidate to hone their experimental, project management and scientific writing skills, implementation science, and clinical trials by working closely with the PI on setting up the lab and working on grants and manuscripts. Additionally, the pharmacist post-doctoral’s expertise will be strongly enhanced in the general areas of pharmacy services to specialized patient populations to optimize patient outcomes.


The initial duration of the position will be for 2 years with a possible renewal dependent upon funding and satisfactory performance.


 


Key Areas of Responsibility:



  • Maintain a strong awareness of current scientific literature, particularly in the area of cardiovascular disease/hypertension, and actively apply new concepts as appropriate.

  • Provide clinical pharmacy services or other specialized pharmacy services to specialized patient populations to optimize patient outcomes and safety.

  • Provide expertise in developing systems of care.

  • Analyze and improve medication usage.

  • Identify and implement best practices into guidelines and policies.

  • Participate in IRB or study committees.

  • Work alongside PI in setting up a new study clinic site at UIHC and study sites in other states.

  • Building strong connections with providers, clinic staff, and patients at study sites.

  • Adjustment of research protocols after piloting UIHC study site.

  • Develop and establish operating procedures for the common studies in the lab and optimize documentation procedures.

  • Participate on a large clinical trial research team.

  • Publish the research outcome in distinguished scientific journals and create presentations for outside scientific meetings and conferences.


 


Qualifications


Required Qualifications:



  • A Pharm.D. (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree

  • Excellence in the field by evidence of completed research projects and publications.

  • Strong background in some combination of the following areas:

    • Curiosity and a passion for pharmacy practice; and an ability to work independently while being an integral part of a cooperative, research and clinical productive team.

    • Demonstrates an extensive level of proficiency in

      • Chronic Disease Management

      • Accountability

      • Decision Making and Critical Thinking



    • Healthcare Counseling




 


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Completion of an American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP) – accredited Post Graduate Year One (PGY1) Residency PGY1 training

  • Board certification or ambulatory pharmacy (BCACP) or other relevant certifications.

  • Hands-on experience with some combination of the following: Post PharmD experiences in clinical pharmacy such as Medication Therapy Management, Chronic Care Management, or other billable pharmacy services.
