Description

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago seeks part-time lecturers to develop and teach independent study courses in the Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics program. The positions are renewable but not benefits eligible. Compensation is dependent on qualifications.
The Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics program at the University of Chicago is designed to provide foundational training in bioinformatics. With demand for more sophisticated health information systems and medical research methodologies rapidly growing due to advances in technology, volume of available health data, and policy initiatives, the skills that students acquire in this program to prepare them to master the foundation of informatics and develop solutions to address these growing needs and current healthcare challenges.
Appointees will be required to develop the structure and content of the independent study course, meet with the student(s) several times during the quarter, provide guidance for the student’s independent work, evaluate the student’s work, and assign a grade. Courses are held for nine weeks, with the tenth week for a final project or exam. The exact meeting day(s)/time(s) will be determined through consultation with the Lecturer and student(s). The class is offered in remote format.
Prior to starting employment, qualified applicants must have 1) a graduate degree or equivalent in a relevant field and 2) have relevant experience in biomedical informatics or medical research.
Candidates with prior teaching experience and/or relevant practical experience are strongly preferred.
