Job Description

The Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching with a specific focus on Building Automation Systems (BAS). We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrates the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

Courses are offered days, evenings, and weekends.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Teach courses related to construction and the building trades, with an emphasis on Building Automation Systems (BAS).
    • Instruct students on the principles, architecture, and functions of sensors, controllers, actuators, and communication networks within BAS.
    • Guide students in identifying common BAS hardware/software, including DDCs, supervisory controllers, HMIs, and protocols like BACnet and Modbus.
    • Educate students on basic control strategies for HVAC, lighting, and access control within BAS.
    • Explain how BAS improves energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and building management.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Associates Degree or a combination of education, training, credentials, and/or experience that meets the needs and requirements of the department.
    • Professional licensure/certification or equivalent experience in construction trades, specifically with expertise in Building Automation Systems (BAS).
    • A strong understanding of basic electricity, including electrical theory, Ohm's Law, circuits, meters, motors, wiring practices, material selection, tool usage, plan reading, and safety is essential.
    • Willingness to teach in non-traditional settings (off-campus, weekends, evenings and accelerated).
    • Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting belonging, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
    • Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus.
    • Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.

    For degrees earned outside of the U.S., a copy of your education equivalency, conducted by a nationally recognized evaluation service, must be included in your application.

    Employees must live in Maryland or a state where the College has payroll reciprocity (DC, VA, PA, WV, DE, MA).
