The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and is the largest private employer in the City of Los Angeles. As an employee of USC, you will be a part of a world-class research university and a member of the “Trojan Family,” which is comprised of the faculty, students, and staff.
USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, John Wells Division of Writing for Screen and Television, is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach the business of writing to students. The ideal candidate will have several years working as a producer, manager, or agent in the entertainment industry and interacts with feature writers and/or television writers on a daily basis. Candidates should have a working knowledge of the development process for television, features, and online content. Candidate should understand industry norms and procedures, and be familiar with legal aspects including but not limited to option agreements and work-for-hire agreements. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required.
USC reserves the “Adjunct” appointment for faculty teaching less than full-time at USC, who are employed full-time in a primary profession or career elsewhere. Adjunct faculty typically teach only one course per year but, in exceptional cases, may teach one course per semester, if approved by the dean.
The John Wells Writing for Screen and Television Division offers programs leading to a Screenwriting Minor, a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and a Master of Fine Arts degree. The primary goal of the Writing for Screen and Television Division is to produce quality storytellers by fostering individual voices and perspectives unique to the writer. All writing-intensive courses are workshop style with an emphasis on revision and collaboration.
The core salary range for this position is $30.00 to $45.00 per hour. This is an adjunct 25% FTE position.
When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
