No. The expected base pay for this position is the Stanford University required minimum for all postdoctoral scholars appointed through the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. The FY25 minimum is $76,383.
A postdoctoral fellowship position is available immediately in the laboratory of James Brooks in the Department of Urology. This project focuses on understanding the role of protein glycosylation on cancer cells and immunosuppression. Our laboratory focuses on prostate and kidney cancers, where we have demonstrated significant changes in glycosylation in carcinogenesis, and the role of these changes in immune suppression. Glycoproteins on the surface of cancer cells bind to Sialic acid (SA)-binding immunoglobulin-type lectins (Siglecs) on immune cells to effect immunosuppression, akin to PDL1-PD1 interactions. In collaboration with Carolyn Bertozzi’s group, we are developing bifunctional proteins that include an antibody to cell surface cancer proteins (e.g. PSMA, CA9) and a bacterial sialidase, which cleaves sialic acid from the cancer glycoproteins, eliminating Siglec-mediated immune suppression, and activating immune attack.
The position is fully funded. Interested candidates should contact Dr. Brooks at jdbrooks@stanford.edu (link sends e-mail) .
Required Qualifications:
- The successful candidate should be highly motivated and hard working, with outstanding past research success and publication history, with an MD, PhD or MD/PhD degrees, and very strong references.
- We are seeking a candidate with expertise in immunology.
- Previous experience in cancer research, molecular biology, glycoprotein science, protein mass spectrometry and animal models would be valuable but is not essential.
Required Application Materials:
- CV or biosketch
- Names of 3 references
