Does this position pay above the required minimum?:
No. The expected base pay for this position is the Stanford University required minimum for all postdoctoral scholars appointed through the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs. The FY25 minimum is $76,383.
We are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to join a nationally and federally funded, interdisciplinary research program focused on improving healthcare delivery by understanding and intervening in the human systems behind it. Based in the HEAL and Kim Labs at Stanford, this position offers the opportunity to work with some of the most detailed data in clinical medicine — including second-by-second EHR metadata and continuous physiologic monitoring — to study how care actually happens, and how it can be made better.
This is a role for someone who’s excited to work with big, messy, real-world data — and who wants to do more than just build models. We’re looking for a researcher who’s motivated by improving systems: how clinicians work together, how decisions are made under pressure, and how technology can support (rather than hinder) the people who care for patients.
You’ll use cloud computing and modern data science tools to analyze high-dimensional, time-resolved data from clinical environments. You’ll collaborate with faculty in AI, clinical informatics, and emergency medicine, and have access to mentorship and infrastructure designed to support your growth as an independent investigator.
This position includes both active participation in ongoing funded projects and the freedom to shape your own research direction. If you’re a quantitative researcher who wants to make healthcare work better for real people — and you want to do it with high-resolution data and a committed team — we want to hear from you.
Required Qualifications:
- A PhD in a quantitative field with a strong programming and statistics background
- Experience analyzing large datasets; familiarity with cloud computing tools and big data workflows
- A track record of completed research projects
- Well-written, peer-reviewed papers are expected
- Interest in using EHR metadata, wearable sensors, and process modeling to understand care delivery
Specific responsibilities and research projects will be tuned to the career goals, technical strengths, and interests of the applicant.
Required Application Materials:
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- 1-2 representative publications or preprints
- Contact information for 2-3 academic references
- A brief statement of research interests and career goals
Stanford is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
