Summary below: Our lab aims to understand the mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias and how those related to gross cardiac fibrosis and disease on an electrophysiological and molecular level. The Research Assistant (Junior or Assistant Specialist) will be involved in all aspects of the research from disease creation to whole tissue mapping, to cell line generation. With supervision, the incumbent will also be responsible for analyzing lines of mice with mutations in central genes involved in cardiac development and diseases. The Junior or Assistant Specialist position will require the employee to be directly responsible for, or assist other lab members, with the following duties:

  • Small animal handling, breeding, minor surgery, and organ harvesting
  • DNA, RNA, and protein extraction for downstream applications such as RNAseq, genotyping, ELISA, and western blotting
  • Clinical biospecimen banking
  • FACS sorting and cell culture
  • PCR and qPCR
  • Optically mapping whole tissue mounts
  • Maintenance of laboratory equipment and freezer monitoring

Desired Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is passionate about learning new skills and works well independently, or with a team. They will take initiative in the lab and have a strong interest in the cardiovascular system and electrophysiology.

Required Qualifications:
* Junior Specialist must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
* Assistant Specialist must possess a master's degree (or equivalent degree) or a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) with 3 or more years of research experience.
