Position Summary
As a Network Applications and Automation Engineer you will support the network monitoring, configuration, and automation in the Network and Communication Services (NCS) group. Partnering with network engineers you will work on ways to automate changes and improve effectiveness of the team.
In this role you will:
  • Retire legacy closed-source products in favor of commercial or open-source applications
  • Transition from legacy closed-source products to commercial or open-source applications, reducing technical debt
  • Share performance and availability information through public dashboards
  • Design, configure, and maintain systems, applications, and complex monitoring tools along with support and administration of enterprise level networking software systems and code base within Git
  • Ensure availability and maintainability of critical on-premises and cloud-based applications
  • Evaluate, configure and support vendor-supplied utilities and software packages; make recommendations for usage and adoption
  • Automate processes and integrate third-party systems using APIs to transfer data between network-based systems
  • Apply orchestration and containerization technologies where appropriate for implementation
  • Have a solid understanding of application/script development, quality assurance and data integration methodologies, and be capable of using a source control system like Git.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with two years’ experience in networking, scripting, or similar environment. A combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.
  • Working knowledge of Python and Linux operating systems
  • Working knowledge of basic network protocols (PING, ARP, DNS, DHCP, and SNMP)
  • Understanding core level networking, and analytical techniques, and expertise in computer applications and networks
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without visa sponsorship
  • This position may require occasional travel between each university campus and off-campus. Must have the ability to demonstrate that the candidate can meet the transportation needs of this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of various tools including Ansible, Git, NetBox, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Perl, Grafana and APIs
  • Knowledge of network management applications such as Cacti, InterMapper, Rancid, OpenNMS, Akips and Auvik
  • Knowledge of MySQL and other relational database platforms and principals
Physical Demands
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
• Must be able to use a computer system and legacy applications
Salary Range $70,000 - $80,000
