Job Description

Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. Reynolds is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technology Department Chair/Program Director. In addition to teaching in both classroom and laboratory settings, the Program Director is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the Medical Laboratory Technology program. This includes program organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, supervision of program faculty and staff, and ensuring the general effectiveness of the program.
The role includes, but is not limited to, the following duties:

  • Collaborating with the Dean on budget preparation and fiscal management
  • Maintaining NAACLS accreditation and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards
  • Participating in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every three years
  • Engaging regularly with students, faculty, clinical partners, and program personnel to support student success
  • Providing academic advising, maintaining office hours, and fulfilling assigned collateral duties
  • Teaching a standard faculty load of approximately 15 credit hours per semester, with release time granted for department chair responsibilities

Teaching assignments may include day and evening courses at multiple campus locations or off-site, depending on program needs. Travel to clinical affiliation sites may be required as part of scheduled program activities.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Earned Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current ASCP-BOC or ASCPi-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.
  • Minimum of three years of documented teaching experience in a medical laboratory or related educational setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of instructional methods, program administration, and current NAACLS accreditation standards and certification procedures.
  • Proven ability to perform a range of administrative responsibilities, including program coordination, monitoring, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Proficiency in using personal computers and current Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into instruction and faculty responsibilities, including the effective use of learning management systems for online teaching.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
