Limited Term Lecturer of Nursing 10 Month

The Georgia College & State University School of Nursing is recruiting for a Limited Term Lecture faculty position. This is a one year/10-month limited term academic appointment. There are additional opportunities for teaching during the summer months. 
The selected candidate will support the academic environment and the educational mission of the University, the College of Health Sciences, and the School of Nursing through student instruction and support at graduate and undergraduate levels, professional development, and service to the institution and the community.
The ideal faculty employee will demonstrate:
-    a basic understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning.
-    strong communication skills and successful Higher Education teaching experience.
-    the ability to work collegially and effectively with individuals.
This position carries a non-tenure track status.

 

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing - 50%
All Georgia College & State University School of Nursing faculty share the responsibility of teaching undergraduate and graduate students as their knowledge, experience, and expertise dictate.
Teaching responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- a full-time instructional load (12-15 hours per semester) teaching in areas of expertise within the academic discipline.
- course development and oversight.
- regular office hours, course meetings, and instruction
- student mentoring
- other teaching responsibilities
In addition to teaching in their discipline, faculty employees may contribute to the Georgia College & State University core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GCSU1Y) or sophomore seminar (GCSU2Y) courses.
Faculty - Professional Development - 20% 
Faculty are expected to develop knowledge and demonstrate understanding of current philosophies, practices, and theories related to the academic discipline and Nursing.
Examples of professional development activities include but are not limited to:
- Attending classes and activities to develop knowledge and expertise related to Nursing Education
- Attending classes and activities necessary for continued knowledge and expertise related to clinical practice areas. 
- Membership and participation in professional organizations
- Other activities as appropriate
Service - 20%
All faculty are expected to support the advancement of the Department, College, and \University mission by providing service to the Institution. Service may be at the Department, College, University, Community and disciplinary level.
Service opportunities may include but are not limited to:
- service on committees, task forces, and other college-improvement activities at the School, College and University level.
- mentoring faculty peers or student organizations
- provide continuing education service, instruction, or program development for Department, School, College, or University
- involvement in professional organizations as a committee member, leader, task force member etc.
Other - 10%
Successful candidates will be able to work collegially and effectively with individuals of various backgrounds.

Educational Requirements
A Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited Nursing Program or the equivalent 40 hours of nursing credit from a BSN to DNP program.                                                                                       
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements as stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org)
Other Required Qualifications
- Strong communication skills.
- Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies.
- A minimum of 18 graduate semester hours related to the discipline.
- Understanding of the principles associated with teaching and learning.
- Demonstrable ability to work collegially and effectively with individuals of various backgrounds.
Required Experience
Unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the United States with the ability to obtain a license in the state of Georgia upon appointment.
1-2 years of clinical practice.

-    Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Terminal degree (or the ability to obtain one within a year of appointment) in Nursing or a related discipline (PhD, DNP, EdD, DNS).
Preferred Experience
Knowledge, expertise and experience in Medical/Surgical Nursing and/or Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.
