The College of Arts & Sciences has an outstanding opportunity for a Senior Computer Specialist to join their team.
The IT Procurement/Surplus and Special Projects role reports to the CAS IT - Director of IT – and is a new role that will manage IT Procurement, Surplus, and general lifecycle tracking of IT equipment within the department and for all units and centers supported by the CAS IT team.
The role will also be responsible for assisting in strategic planning, organizing, controlling, and evaluating the Annual Workstation program and refresh of equipment. This position will have significant authority to establish policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures to ensure our IT Procurement and Surplus process is efficient and using resources appropriately. This is an intermediate to advanced level technical position. You might perform a variety of complex computer system related activities including, systems analysis, database development, and complex report development. Your will provide detailed requirements analysis and recommendations for systems software and hardware acquisitions and/or upgrades. Develop and maintains process and technical documentation.
The IT Procurement/Surplus and Special Projects role is a key participant in the CAS IT team, ensuring that lifecycle management operations are coordinated among the departments’ varied programs and services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
IT Procurement
• Oversee all IT procurement and intake of IT equipment for departments.
• Consult with faculty and to determine hardware, software, or system functional specifications, prior to procuring equipment or solutions;
• Communicate effectively with faculty and staff regarding IT requirements, budget information, reconciliations of ProCards, purchasing, and delivery.
• Coordinate with CAS IT to ensure equipment is received, inventoried, and set up to the requirements of those that are requesting the equipment.
IT Surplus
• Oversee all computer hardware intake, refresh hardware that can be used for redistribution and appropriately surplus equipment that is end of life
• Ensure all hardware the is being surplused has undergone the appropriate Data wipe based on data compliance and privacy requirements.
Process Improvement / Metrics and Reporting
• Stay abreast of business and industry trends and practices. Engage in continuous process improvement to identify and implement changes and improvements.
• Develop metrics to provide feedback on effectiveness of program services, initiatives, and process improvements.
• Provide feedback and leadership in securing sufficient resources to ensure successful operations.
Project Management
• Work with the CAS IT leadership to manage the annual workstation refresh process, procurement, and surplus of IT equipment.
• Set goals, establish timelines, manage resources, establish roles and allocate work, monitor/measure progress, take remedial action or celebrate project/team successes as appropriate.
Other Projects
• Other projects and duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s in computer science or a related field, experience can be substituted for education.
• 2-3 years' experience in an IT role. Ideally with IT procurement as part of the role.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Familiarity with procurement processes, ITIL best practices and IT lifecycle tracking.
• Keep current with campus standards, technology developments and College guidelines to ensure that the highest standards of reliability and performance are met.
• Demonstrated experience working with minimal supervision, both independently and in a collaborative team environment and within deadlines.
• Demonstrated client service skills and the ability to work with personnel of various levels of technical background.
• Excellent written and oral communications skills.
• Self-motivated, resourceful, and proactive.
• Operationally minded with experience developing, implementing, and managing effective processes and systems.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to exercise independent judgement and creatively solve problems.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Proven customer service orientation with a history of delivering high quality projects on time.
• Ability to translate complex issues into comprehensible ideas and concepts with both technical and
non-technical staff.
