Health Disparities Research Faculty

The Center for Health Disparities Research (CHDR), led by Dr. Amy Kind, invites applications for a new tenure-track faculty position focused on complementing and expanding health disparities research, including social exposome research and social determinants of health (SDH). Outstanding candidates at all levels (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor rank) will be considered.
CHDR is a dynamic, growing, and multidisciplinary Center housed within the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH). Broadly, CHDR focuses on mechanisms of health disparities - with a particular focus on the social exposome and its relationship to health. CHDR supports faculty research teams focused on examining the mechanistic interplay amongst a complex array of geopolitical, socioeconomic, health care, cultural, social, psychological, physiological, genetic, and cellular factors and their relationships to health outcomes. CHDR is the home to the team that refined and curates the Area Deprivation Index and its data democratization portal, the Neighborhood Atlas. CHDR is also home to the Neighborhoods Study, an NIH funded national initiative to examine the adverse social exposome's impact on neuropathology and brain health biomarkers with a particular focus on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD). CHDR investigators represent all areas of the translational research spectrum, from basic science to community participatory research. This is a robust community with strong, synergistic interests that span the health disparities and social exposome methodological and disease spectrum. CHDR also has strong relationships with local, state and federal government, non-profit organizations and industry entities.
UW-Madison is consistently ranked among the top universities in terms of success in federally funded research grants and is highly supportive of an interdisciplinary approach to scholarship. It is expected that the candidate will dedicate the major share of time to research. The expectation is that the candidate will be able to bring existing external funding to this position. In addition, the candidate will work to pursue additional funding in collaboration with Dr. Amy Kind and/or other research faculty that are part of CHDR. Preparation of successful grant applications, presentations, and peer-reviewed publications will be expected.

75%: Conduct research, both independently and in collaboration with other SMPH and UW faculty, within a specialized field of interest including health disparities research, health services research, social exposome research, or a related field.
20%: Mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and teach graduate-level courses in relevant fields as appropriate. Participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the faculty rank.
5%: Service
The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health and CHDR. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.
The chosen candidate will teach medical students, residents, and fellows.

The ideal candidate will have a successful record of research productivity. Candidate's background should demonstrate an established research interest with a focus directly or in an area directly relevant to health disparities, social determinants of health, or related areas.
