Grants & Contracts Officer
Medicine - Administration
Location:  New Orleans, LA
Summary
Provides support for proposal development andsubmission for Department of Medicine Sections and Centers. This includes working on behalf of facultyand students for all proposals to federal agencies, foundations and industryincluding clinical trials development. Works closely with investigators toprepare budgets. Works closely with ProjectInvestigators (PI’s) on timeline management. Preparesnecessary paperwork and where appropriate, negotiates with the funding sources. Prepares monthly summary reports for departmentalleadership on numbers of proposals submitted, status of previously submittedproposals, and awards received. This position works closely with variousuniversity offices which support research including the Research AdministrationServices Unit (RASU), Sponsored ProjectsAdministration (SPA), Internal Review Board (IRB), and Grants and Contracts Accounting, among others.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledgeof research proposalsor related types of activities
  • High level of proficiency with spreadsheets anddatabase software, as well as Windows environment and all components of Microsoft Officesuite, including Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work proactively to complete assignmentsand meet deadlines
  • Ability to coordinatethe work of others
  • Abilityto work well as part of a diverseteam
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed
  • Excellent writtenand verbal communication
  • Ability tomulti-task, and prioritize work assignments without direct supervision

Required Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degreewith 3 years directly relatedwork experience or
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 9 years directlyrelated work experience

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in preparing budgets
  • Experience managingresearch/clinical trial projects
  • Experience in IRB/IACUC document preparation, review, and coordination
  • NCURA Certification

Compensation Information
This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 26.
