The Ahmanson Translational Theranostics Division of the Department of Molecular and Medical Pharmacology at UCLA invites applications from qualified candidates for the Director of Cyclotron and Radiochemistry Operations. This faculty position is at an Assistant or Associate Professor level in the Adjunct series. The successful national or international candidate must be enthusiastic, flexible and motivated to build a program, have a PhD degree, preferably in chemistry, with excellent practical skills in radiochemical synthesis and methods, along with a broad understanding of organic chemistry and associated analytical techniques. Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work successfully in teams are essential requirements. Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) biomarker production and ALARA radiation safety procedures are required.
The successful candidate is expected to oversee research associates involved in the cyclotron operation and PET radiochemistry facilities for the production of clinical and preclinical PET biomarkers in compliance with internal procedures, cGMP, other FDA regulations and United States Pharmacopeia standards. The candidate is also expected to work closely with chemists and radiochemists in developing new imaging small molecule probes, peptides and radio-metal chelate-based probes labeled with positron, -, - and -particle emitters for eventual translation to the clinic. The candidate is further expected to teach residents, faculty, research associates and students the fundamentals of clinical grade radiolabeled biomarker production and FDA compliant procedures and operations.
