Department Description
In 2017, UC Davis embarked on a $2 billion capital campaign, which is on track to be completed in 2024. UC Davis Health is a critical pillar in this campaign, responsible for raising a quarter of this goal. Development and philanthropy continue to grow at UC Davis at a remarkable pace. Fiscal year close 2022 marked the most successful achievement in UC Davis' history with $323 million in total dollars raised.
Part of UC Davis Health, the School of Medicine is nationally ranked in the top 10 for diversity (3rd), family medicine (7th), and primary care (8th). In addition to being ranked as one of the country's best medical schools, UC Davis Health is ranked as one of the nation's best hospitals in nine adult medical specialties and is recognized as #1 in the Sacramento area and among the top 10 in California. It has a 619-bed acute-care teaching hospital, a 1,200+ member physician's practice group, and the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. It is also home to an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, an internationally renowned neurodevelopmental research institute, a stem cell institute, and a comprehensive Children's Hospital. Additionally, UC Davis Health is home to other nationally prominent centers focused on advancing telemedicine, improving vascular care, eliminating health disparities, and translating research findings into new treatments for patients.
The Health Sciences Development and Alumni Relations is charged with building philanthropic support for UC Davis Health's patient care, research and education programs. The HSDA leadership team provides leadership, coordination, and support services to help the university meet its mission, strengthens Health's philanthropic support and focuses efforts on the university's highest priorities and initiatives, including the current comprehensive campaign. The Giving Programs team oversees the comprehensive multi-channel annual giving efforts of the organization, including direct mail, email, social media, Give Day, crowdfunding and the patient calling program.

Responsibilities
The incumbent will be asked to provide support to the department's Giving Program team, which includes the Director of Giving, the Associate Director of Giving and the Associate Director of the Grateful Patient program. The incumbent is expected to provide high-level, day-to-day administrative and analytical support and project assistance. The incumbent interacts with individuals at various levels both inside and outside the university and must maintain the highest level of sensitivity and confidentiality relating to donor and personnel matters.
Administrative support includes, but is not limited to, answering, and responding to telephone calls, emails, drafting correspondence, creating expense reports, tracking expenses, data entry, coordinating all logistics for meetings and events, calendaring, and general information management.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience in producing data reports, financial and expense reports, travel vouchers, etc.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft software applications necessary in administrative work, including programs to retrieve current and historical information, to compile reports and briefings, spreadsheets, and graphics and the ability to implement new systems to increase productivity in Microsoft Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience and proven ability to function at a high administrative level in providing executive level support while representing the University and Medical Center's best interests at all times.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and oral skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with diverse and demanding constituents, including major gift prospects, donors, volunteers, prominent social, business, and governmental figures, staff, and campus administrators, using a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and discretion, with emphasis of flexibility and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated writing/composition/spelling/proofreading skills; excellent understanding of the rules of English grammar and syntax, to write clear, concise correspondence and briefings.
  • Proven excellent organizational skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to navigate conflicting priorities, to be flexible and to maintain composure during peak workload periods.
  • Working knowledge of the dynamics of fundraising and the concepts of development for an academic medical institution is preferred.
  • Knowledge of research techniques with the ability to extract and distill pertinent/critical information from multiple sources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to obtain and convey information professionally and clearly to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality for all patient, employee, donor, volunteer, departmental and University information, and materials.
  • Ability to analyze information and situations, identify problems, formulate alternative solutions.
  • Demonstrates ongoing flexibility, positivity, and ability to quickly pivot to support overarching goals of the Annual Giving Team, and Development team as a whole.
    Special Requirements
  • Must be able to work some evenings and weekends. Incumbent is responsible for following all UC Davis Health System guidelines and policies.
  • This position may be subject to a criminal background investigation, drug screen, Live Scan fingerprinting, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
