Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education at the University of South Carolina is seeking applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor for the Teacher Education department, with expertise in community empowerment, to join our nationally recognized and award-winning faculty. This is a full-time 9-month position. We seek a dynamic educator with an interest in teacher preparation and community engagement. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the Teacher Education department. The successful candidate will begin August 16, 2025.
The Teacher Education department seeks to uphold our commitment to teaching and scholarship that focuses on preparing P-12 teachers to work in a wide range of classrooms settings. It is expected that the candidate’s areas of expertise include teaching and teacher preparation, and pedagogical knowledge related to classroom instruction, classroom management, and community empowerment.
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will join a team of collaborative faculty serving the nationally recognized Teacher Education department and will be expected to: (1) teach courses in teacher education; (2) teach courses in the academic core; (3) teach additional courses to meet specific programmatic needs; and (4) provide service to the department, college, institution, schools, and profession. The successful applicant will have opportunities to teach at a USC Professional Development School or partnership site; develop and teach courses online, and on campus, and advise students enrolled in the Teaching and Learning PhD programs.
Required Education and Experience
  • Applicants must have:
  • (1) an earned doctorate in teacher education, or in a related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization;
  •  (2) expertise in instruction and assessment; 
  • (3) two years or the equivalent of experience working with students in P-12 school settings; 
  • (4) evidence of effective teaching, preferably with pre- and/or in-service teachers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preference will be given to applicants who possess
  •  (1) experience teaching a wide-range of students; 
  • (2) a commitment to field-based pedagogy in teacher education;
  •  (3) a commitment to teaching and/or preparing educators to employ community engaged approaches to teaching; and/or 
  • (4) expertise in teaching with technology and/or distributed learning formats.
